Cannigione is located on the western side of the Gulf of Arzachena, a deep inlet that geographically occupies the central part of Gallura in north-eastern Sardinia.

A renowned holiday resort, it boasts a central position with respect to the resorts and beaches of the Costa Smeralda.

To the east of the Gulf, one finds the Costa Smeralda and Porto Cervo; to the north, the islands of the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park, easily reached from the port of Cannigione; to the northwest, Palau and Santa Teresa di Gallura; to the southwest, the territory of Arzachena with some of the most important and visited nuragic sites in Sardinia.
